We don't get a whole lot of Snow in Georgia, but when we do we have a TON of fun! We are just waiting for the neighborhood to wake up so we can go make a snowman!

Photos of Southern Ice Storm

Funny looking bush - all toppled over! Front of our house, the dogwoods are surviving well

A view of the icy neighborhood from our front porch. This is William's Mom's house, the arrows are pointing at the phone line that is on the ground. You can see the power line a few feet above it also seriously drooping.
This is Quincy's front yard. The pine tree has literally been stripped of its branches on one side, Another of our dogwoods, this is the one with the power lines entangled in it's branches. Luckily the ice is melting and taking some of the burden off the lines.

Our new Japanese Maple - it's a $150.00 tree, and I really hope it survives!!!
(It survived very well)

Ice covered power lines.

I hope the schools will call a snow day tomorrow. (They didn't) Even if the roads are clear enough for the busses to get the kids to school, there is still a very definite danger of trees falling.

As of 2:30 P.M. we are still hearing trees cracking and breaking. As the trees thaw out the ice breaks off in sheets from the top creating a domino effect with the branches below. The pictures above are just of what we have witnessed in our own neighborhood. I've heard many news stories of much worse.

Even though the roads are pretty clear, we are still hearing sirens of police and fire out in droves. No reports of any deaths so far (Thank God)! The most idiotic thing of all is that people think they can still dive 80 MPH on 85... the traffic report today has alerts out in EVERY section of the metro area including a jackknifed tractor trailer.

It seems that most people in the Metro Atlanta are without power. 270,000 (as close as the next neighborhood over). We have had dips and surges, but no outages for more than about 5 minutes. We also still have phone service, there are a lot of homes without.

After living in Michigan for eighteen years, I am still amazed about how the south is effected by winter weather. I don't have to go to the grocery store to know that they are out of milk! We have reached about 34 degrees, but the weatherman says that it will freeze again tonight. This will indubitably re-freeze the stuff that is melting now and create more problems.
